Congratulations to all the owners & participants! This was a very successful first grading day, and while not everyone could be letter-perfect, I think it was a great event. Below you will find the names of all the Level 1 and Level 2 achievers. You will also receive a personal email in the next few days with a break down of all your horses' scores. A special thank you to Jadea & Pageboy, Inc. for the wonderful write-up's she did for our most outstanding performers. Be on the lookout for the next grading day after the New Year.
LEVEL 1
SKR In Lieu Of, owned by Beth Allan of Zodiac Sport Horses - 53
pts
Like a stealthy jungle cat, SKR In Lieu Of strolled lazily
into the ring, watching with disinterest as the crowd collectively gasped.
One ear flicked, the only movement, before the judges descended upon him
in a frenzy, eager to inspect this oddly calm colt. Sleek and sinewy, he
may still be growing into those long legs and gorgeous head but no one can
question that "Luke" is a glowing example of his breed. Very balanced, with
a well-built hind and tons of bone, not to mention the easy, laid-back attitude
flowing off of this gorgeous boy, he's all Irish babe. Charisma floated above
his head the whole time like a bright bulb, helping him to overshadow the
competition even more, if that is even possible. He simply wiped away all
thought of the previous youngstock, and no doubt is still in the minds of
all who saw him. Luke exudes a magnetic allure, enhanced by his winning
personality. He scored somewhat low in Suitability, as some of the judges
felt he would be better suited to single event, rather than the strenous
combination of Eventing. As for color, you can see for yourself that he's
a fabulous dapple grey... who unfortunately decided to roll in the dirt several
moments before he was graded. It had Beth howling, but in the end he did
amazing, good job Luke!
Miss Illusive, owned by Jen of Enria Sport Horses Int. - 51 pts
This filly exploded into the ring, and right away there
was no questioning that she was there to be all that she could. Her coloring
was fantastic, a rich, chocolate-bay coat and crisp, clean markings. Not
only was she fabulously dressed, as it were, but "Moshka" was also a textbook
example of a Trakehner baby. The judges had to pause for several minutes,
just to admire her strong legs and smooth topline. There was some trouble
with her conformation, and after a heated debate she was given a 7, though
it was clear the grading had been very close in that area. Still, with two
perfect tens Miss Illusive didn't need to be any more distinguishable to
earn a level 1 rating. Personality wise, this filly is just a doll. She prances
around, head held high, and stamps and snorts like the prima donna she's
no doubt going to be. This reporter especially enjoyed when she frisked each
judge for treats, as watching her pout was just priceless. Suitability,
suitability, another troubled area for Moshka. Jen handled Moshka like a
trooper, but the judge's seemed to feel that this particular Trakehner would
be much better suited to a career as a hunter. At last we come to Showmanship,
an area she may have excelled at... until this stubborn girl decided, shortly
before this phase was over, that she officially quit. She stopped short and
balked, refusing to budge until Jen persuaded her with the treats she hadn't
found earlier. All in all, well done Moshka!
